I am a new user to Shade, but have previous 3D modeling experience using Blender.

I am wondering if anyone can help me do the following. In Blender, I can select a face (quad), extrude it, cancel the extrude, then scale the new quad to effectively create a new 'quad within a quad'. I've attached an image of a simple example I created in Blender.

I'm trying achieve something similar in Shade 3D and so far am failing miserably. Does anyone know how I can do this?

Thanks

Hi Mark,

Modify -> Mesh -> Bevel will do that for you. Play a bit with the Bevel features in the mesh menu and you should get your desired result.

You can also just use extrude. Make sure you have snap toggled on, and just drag the face out and back again to where you started (this is easier than it sounds, it should just pop back in - you can hold down the shift key while you drag if the face moves around too much).

All you need to do then is scale it with the scale tool (r key), or use bevel as suggested before if you need more accuracy.

Once you have Extruded the face

Right Click
In the menu select = mesh_edit_bevels = Bevel
Left Click and move the mouse and you will then be able to achieve what you desire.
But
you have to keep Right Clicking and drilling down to that menu item to repeat the process.

Ummm, ignore my answer, you can just do a straight bevel as Stefan suggested.

Just make sure it is the "bevel" type of bevel, which is the fourth option (the icon that looks like square bunny ears), not the first one (offset) which I talked about - it doesn't add geometry, it just scales the current face.

A bit confusing imo, I would have thought that "bevel" would be the default bevel. ;)

Also, it seems if you use the tool panel on the left you can do multiple bevels if you keep clicking the bevel icon you want while the tool is live (i.e. before you hit the apply button/ enter), and the "single process" checkbox is unchecked.

I have to say, the bevel tool is particularly good in shade, the viewport widget is actually very useful and accurate, but you can use numbers as well if you want. And you can interchange these methods while the tool is live - cool.
