Hi Guys just a quickie.
I am just learning Shade, I have bought in a cube, and am practising Extruding, I can Extrude in the X and Z Axes with no problem, but, when I try to Extrude in the Y Axis the Extruded surface doesn't go up in the Y direction.
Is there a key I press so that when I
Select a Face
Hit Extrude
Press a key
The extrusion goes up in the Y direction
OR do I have to keep changing the work plane to either XY or XZ

i assume you model in a single 3D viewport window. There as you figured out extrude does not work properly in Y, when you don't set the xy axis in the little global icon. It's working however nicely when you switch to the four view windows and extrude from there (top/left/right). For single 3D Window extruding i prefer to use the extrude command in the bevel tool, which works reliable and precise in all 3 axis.

I was modeling in one viewport as you guessed, but changing to the 4 viewports worked a treat and more by luck than judgement I did work out about changing to the XY Axis.
I didn't know about the extrude command in the Bevel tool (till now
