Multiple Workspaces

Start with the open, uncluttered Shade workspace, then save custom workspaces so you can work your very best.

Shade's open, uncluttered original workspace isn't filled with space hogging tabs, panels, rooms, drawers or other non-standard spaces. You'll find tools are readily accessible from clear, simple palettes that still manage to give you granular control over your work.

Shade Workspace Features

  • Save Your Custom Workspace. Like the layout you use every day? Save multiple work spaces so that everyone that sits down with Shade on your computer can use the Shade layout they want to use.
  • Key Commands for Rapid Work. Every tool palette and panel can be summoned or banished with key commands so you can instantly reclaim your desktop after using a tool.

Introducing Workspaces

Workspaces were introduced with Shade 9, but received a major accessibility update with Shade 12. A workspace is an arrangement of the Shade user experience. Previously you accessed them through a menu, but Shade 12 introduced the Workspace bar. The Workspace Bar is right under your main menu bar and next to your document tabs.

If the Workspace Bar is not visible, go to menu View> Workspace Selector and make sure that it is selected.

Clicking the buttons of Workspace Bar causes the workspace to switch.

There are six preset Workspace Bars that ship with Shade: Layout, Modeling, Split View, UV Edit, Animation and Rendering.

If you close ShadeExplorer, or pull it out of its location within the user experience, it may not be restored to a Workspace after you close a document.

Built in Workspaces

Each Workspace is based on a stage of development of your model.

Layout Displays

Layout Displays the Perspective View and ShadeExplorer within the central work area of Shade.

Modeling Mainly displays

Modeling displays the Perspective View, without ShadeExplorer.

Split View

Split View Splits the view into four parts, displaying Top, Perspective View, Front View and Right View.

Even though the Views are evenly sized and spaced, place the cursor over the intersection of the four Views, then drag to interactive resize all of them.

UV Edit

UV Edit Displays the UV and Perspective View. Changes you make in UV are immediately visible within the Perspective View.

Animation Displays

Animation Displays the top view on the left, the Perspective View on the right, and the Motion window at the bottom.

Rendering Displays

Rendering displays the rendering preview on the left and the Camera View on the right. Shade will automatically begin to draft render in the Render View.

Adding Your Own Workspaces

You can add a new workspace to the Workspace Bar yourself. Arrange the Shade interface, then click the + button the the Workspace bar. You can name and save the workspace in the Workspace bar for future use.
